Re: Downgrading operating system

Since the PC originally came with Windows preinstalled, the official way to get it is by using HP Recovery media.

You can contact HP support to see if they can offer you original recovery media for this computer (a.k.a. recovery DVDs or USB).

Info US/CA/AMS >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bph07143

Here is how you can contact them :

Option 2) If there is no recovery media at HP (very likely now as the model is old) , you can try to contact this 3rd party company:

http://www.computersurgeons.com/

to see if they can offer you such recovery media

Based on their site, this is a recovery media for model 1212c (might be different than yours) and the product numbers are

QW765AA, QW765AAR, QW765AA#ABA

So, it is important for you to clarify your Product Number (PN), not just the model, to obtain the correct recovery media. You can also contact them via email/phone for clarification.

Once you receive the recovery media set, here are instructions how to perform the recovery:

Once ready, please, shutdown the computer using the power button.

Insert the Windows DVD 1st one

Power  on the PC.

As soon as you press the power-on button, keep hitting the Esc button (like tap-tap-tap).

This should open a HP Startup Menu

Choose F9 to open Boot options. Select the DVD as a boot option.

Follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows 7

Here is a video example >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFBWPmy32ms

Hope this helps.

Re: Blue Screen Issue

Hello!

Thank you for posting in HP support forum!

I am sorry about the issue you experience. I will be glad to help you solve your computer related issues.

Your problem is known as Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). BSOD is kind of Windows self-protection feature. If you received a blue screen error, or stop code, the computer has shut down abruptly to protect itself from data loss.

A hardware device, its driver, or related software might have caused this error. What you describe could happen because of incompatible with Windows driver (most often) or because of hardware issue (rarely).

In order to troubleshoot, I would need some specific information.

First - configuration

When you start your computer to Windows, go to Start ->  Control Panel -> System should be opened.

Then follow the instructions here to Disable Automatic Reboot after Blue Screen Errors

Uncheck "Automatically restart" option and click OK.

Please, configure your WIndows to create kernel memory dump file as per these instructions here:

http://www.howtogeek.com/196672/windows-memory-dumps-what-exactly-are-they-for/

When BSOD screen appears your computer shall not reboot but the blue screen will remain on top.

Please, write here absolutely everything you will see on the screen. (of take a picture and upload it here or somewhere else). There can be some code which may help me help you. After that you will have to hard restart your computer.

Second - collect dump files

After reboot/restart , open the Computer (Windows Explorer) and go to C:\Windows\

Open Minidump folder

There should be some dump files inside the folder.

Mark them all, right click them all (when marked) -> choose Send to -> Compressed (zipped) folder

Windows will now create a zip archive

I will need this zip archive containing the dump files. They may help me providing technical information about why the issue happens. Once you have the files, upload them somewhere (e.g. OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc...) and provide me with link to download

Third - test your hardware for issues

1. Please, shutdown the computer using the power button

2. Power it on.

2.1 As soon as you press the power-on button, keep hitting the Esc button (like tap-tap-tap).

This should open a HP Startup Menu which may look similar to this one

3. Choose F2 to open System Diagnostics. Follow the on-screen instructions to perform System Test >> Quick test.

This will check major hardware componets for issue (do it just in case) . Here is more info >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03467259#AbT1

If the tests pass without issues, continue. If not, please, let me know

Fourth - check your PC for viruses/malware

You can use the free ESET Online scanner

>> http://download.eset.com/special/eos/esetonlinescanner_enu.exe   (from Eset / eset.com)

or Sophos Hitman Pro >> https://www.hitmanpro.com/en-us/hmp.aspx

Last but not least - Update all your drivers using HP Support Assistant

Instructions

or use Device Manager / Windows Update >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03330139

Looking forward to your reply. Let me know the results of the test, collect the dumps, provide details. Post back if you face difficulties.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the quick reply.
I'll try calling the 800 # tomorrow.

In the meantime, I tried the heididoc.net link.   It might work, but it's not clear which of seven "Windows 7 Pro" selections is the correct one for the HP Elite 8200 CMT.  Just for Win7 Pro, the .exe that I downloaded from heididoc.net gives the following choices:

1) Win 7 Pro SP1

2) Win 7 Pro N SP1

3) Win 7 Pro K SP1

4) Win 7 Pro NK SP1

5) Win 7 Pro SP1 COEM

6) Win 7 Pro N SP1 COEM

7) Win 7 Pro KN SP1 COEM

I picked one at random, and it then asked me 32 or 64 bit.  Which is fine (I want 64 bit).   But it's not at all clear what the difference b/n the 7 permutations is.    Your thoughts?

Open the BIOS and set the new hard drive as the first boot drive. Let us know if that resolved the issue.

There are many methods to get rid of it that are described at webpages or forums in a google search.

https://www.google.nl/search?q=how+can+I+get+rid+of+super+pc+cleaner&oq=how+can+I+get+rid+of+super+pc+cleaner&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i60.360j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

You would probably be far better off using your HP recovery media to return your PC to the state in which it was delivered to you.  As long as you use Google Chrome and are signed into it, you won't lose all of your bookmarks. You will have to reinstall all of the software you installed after you initially setup your PC.

Thanks. I just did not like to see yellow exclamation in my device manager.

I will leave it as is, since I am the only person to use this PC.

I think this would bother many people who still want to use their older PCs with modern OS.

Making a Pavilion p7-1254 Recognize and Use its Recovery Media

$

OK, wizards! I've had my Pavilion p7-1254 desktop long enough that the hard drive had to be wiped a second time. There were many OS errors being reported. I was nervous about maintaining the integrity of my data. All the old partitions have been deleted using an ancient Windows 7 OEM disc (eBay) unrelated to this computer. Now I need a way to get the computer to recognize the (re-)installation media and don't know how to proceed.

I have -

1.) The computer's Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit (DVD) disaster recovery disc which I just freshened in September,

2.) The three authentic HP Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit OS recovery discs (DVDs), made about 2 years ago using HP's media-burning process,

3.) HP's (seemingly useless for this computer) 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium *USB* OS recovery stick. I ordered it about two weeks ago in late November. But the computer wouldn't boot from the stick. The message was something *like* "this is the wrong media for your computer." The one HP telephone tech with whom I talked about this was mystified about how I could have ordered the stick on-line from HP's own site,

4. Full backups of all my data. I had been using Windows 7 native backup utility and storing my data on an 8 TB external USB drive. I also have all my data except the OS backed up in the cloud via CrashPlan,

5.) The motherboard specs and pictures, and PDF versions of the HP support documentation including the machine's serial and product numbers,

6.) The laptop from which this is all being typed.

The computer has a single DVD writer, onboard USB ports, an integrated RJ-45 jack for Ethernet, an integrated wireless-n Ethernet adapter, and an integrated 16 GB video card. The hardware of the computer has been working just fine.  I'd recently swapped in a new 2 TB hard drive which has also worked well, and also a dual-band wireless PCI-Express wireless NIC.

Who might *know* how to get the computer to recognize its own installation media? Thanks very much for your help!

hp mouse acting unresponsive

Im not sure, but recently there are issues i am having with my HP model mouse. Unfortanetly, im not sure what the official name of the mouse is, since it is not detected by the software detection on the HP site.

Basically, the issue is that the mouse is unresponsive on certain websites. For example, the Windows store acts erratic when it goes up and down the page strangely. It becomes uncontrollable and acts erratic. Anyways, this is the information i know about the mouse:

Brand: HP Mouse 2 button Wired (came bundled with my windows 10 pc)

OS: Windows 10 64 bit

P/N on Mouse:  704223-001

Possible name?:  HP, HQ-TRE 71004

Wired? Yes.

Some assistance is requested please. Since this is a HP product, i thought i could get help using the automated system, but for some reason, it not even detected by the automated system made by HP. So i am asking for help on here please! Thanks!

I have solved the problem by purchasing a monitor with HD connections, but there REALLY is no blue connection port. Honest.

It was an HP refurbished, so I'm not sure if the card was removed. There is a video card, but with only HD ports. I'm doing this on the new machine because I bought a monitor. Thanks for the help.

Although I truely appreciate being talked down to, I would just like to mention that I did thank you, and the advice I was referring to was given by a real HP tech. Sorry to ruffle feathers, I appreciate the effort and you did help me to identify the make and model of my machine.

I want to delete the annoying HP welcome screen that keeps popping up

The screen keeps popping up ever since I filled out the "register" form. I've looked for hpwelcome.* and any variety of that name and nothing jumps out at me when it's running. I've followed several suggestions online, but Windows 10 keeps evolving faster than the directions. Any insight is appreciated.
