When did the application disappear? 

Was it uninstalled , or removed somehow?

Was there a change made to your system, or upgrade?

Did you upgrade to Windows 10, and if so after that did MS Word function?

What version of MS Word is it?

Did you make recovery media for you system?

I just recently had service work by HP. It was also reset back to factory. Before this happened my misconfig was set to Selective startup in misconfig. I can't remember if it came that way new or they put it back to my settings from my pc settings.

 

I've tried to change to Normal startup but it always restarts to Selective. It seems that I read somewhere that the All-in -one pc Win 8 is set to selective to make an easier startup.

 

Can you give your opinion on this. My pc is ready to update to 8.1. I just want everything correct before I move on with anything more after the factory reset. I have updated Win updates and Hp updates.

The start menu, task bar, clock, and cortana are not funcitoning.  This occured after loading a modded Civilization 5 saved game which resulted in crashing the computer several times.  It is not a virus from the mods.

Hi,

 

See if you can use windows system restore to return the machine to a point in time before the modded file was first loaded as follows.

 

Boot the computer normally, log-in and let Windows load for a few minutes.

 

Hold down the ctrl and alt keys and press delete.

 

Select Task Manager.

 

Click on File and select Run new task.

 

Type rstrui- also enter a tick in the box for 'Create this task with administrative privileges' - and click Ok.

 

When the system restore interface has loaded, pick a restore point at least 48 hours before the modded file was first loaded and then proceed with the system restore.

I was downloading Tf2 on steam, the download was slow so I restarted it, and it said I had error code 0000xc185, please help soon!!!!! Thanks!!!!

How can I fix this?

 

Fingerprint scan does not work, again after upgrading to Window 10.

You are a GENIUS!!!! I was on the phone with HP support giving them my credit card to charge me to do absolutely nothing.
Then I found your post. I removed the SanDisk SSD drive and like MAGIC my system booted right up....just like nothing had happen....
Thank You so much....for figuring this annoying HP issue out.

My Computer PC is fine.  What I did was to our local Verizon store where I purchased my phone. They found out that when I connect my Samsung Note 5 Android to the computer, I failed to select option to transfer pictures to my PC.  On my cellphone, there is a page where I could see Phone been charged - its connected to my PC.  A few lines above it I put a check mark on transfer data to my PC.  That was the problem that I failed to do.

Hi,

 

No built-in encryption of any kind in the simple edition / home edition of Windows. EFS like BitLocker is only available in the business/professional versions of Windows. Obviously, Microsoft thinks home users does not need to hide anything and they need to pay extra for such functions.

 

You can use VeryCrypt for files and folders encryption, for removable media encryption (e.g. encrypt USB pen drive) and for full disk encryption.

Hello,

 

Thank you for posting in the HP support forum.

 

This has nothing to do with Win 8.1 upgrade so you can upgrade without issues of any kind with regards to msconfig.

This also has nothing to do with All-in-one PCs, its the same on tablets, notebooks, desktop PCs, etc...

 

Normal startup loads it all - services, drivers, original standard boot configuration.

Diagnostic start up is the name of the mode known as Safe Mode

Selective - you can choose to disable certain things - actually, there are many people who are on this - if you choose to stop/disable a "standard" service or some autorun program entry, etc.

Thanks for your response and explaination. My question is how do I set the misconfig to Normal and keep it? Or maybe I should leave it well enough alone.

 

I had upgraded to the 8.1 before and it seemed very unstable or didn't seem like things worked well. I know this sounds very vague but I actually can't remember all the problems I had before I moved on to Win 10.  I am just trying to move forward now to upgrade to the Win 10 again after the reset to factory.

now is working,

 

i downloaded a Windows Home 10, in a USB, and installed in the laptop, now is working, but i dont have a key to make this official, 
i dont know if i have to install the original version of windows 8, so i can get a key from HP, and then upgrade to windows 10

Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.

 

I read your post about the blue screen issue, and wanted to assist you!  I understand that you are also hearing a clicking sound.

 

It seems that there are no Windows 7 drivers available for this product on the HP site.  This may be why you are having some of the issues.  Are you able to reseat the Hard Drive?  Afterwards, try testing the hardware.  You can use the following document to help you, if needed: 

HP Desktop PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 10, 8)

 

I am not sure what you mean by downloading the Operating System.  Are you indicating that you want to try performing a System Recovery, to put the notebook back to its factory settings?  You should indeed lose your files if you do this.  But you can always try to back your files up before hand.  If it is determined that the Hard Drive is failing, then you may need to replace it, in order to correct the issue.  Let me know how it goes.

So I typed " c:\Program Data\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs" into my file explorer and it said that didn't exist or it was spelled wrong. 

 

Try this: Right click on the icon, select the "More" option and select "Open  file location".  That will get you to the menu so you can delete the shortcut.  Also has a lot of other settings to play with
