Hp support assistant not updating / system restore not working

Couple of problems -

(1) Got the HP support assistant downloaded; But it states there are 'no new updates'. When I check the HP website, there are. Why is it not downloading these new updates?

(2) Cannot use the 'Restore point', as it comes as 'error - try again'

Hi there ,

I hope you find your Support Forum experience a positive one!  It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel.  I understand that you reset your computer, and you noticed that Energy Star software is not present.  I am happy to help with this.

Looking at the support page for your model, HP 110-014 Desktop PC (ENERGY STAR), it does not have any drivers for Windows 10.  When you installed Windows 10 was it an upgrade installation or did you later perform a clean install?   After upgrading to Windows 10, was the Energy Star software still present?

If the Energy Star software did not survive the Windows 10 upgrade it is likely that Windows 10 itself did not migrate it.

Please let me know.

Will do Paul but I doubt that they hacked my system to get the model number, remember I said I reinstalled the OS, there would be no HP anything associated when it was done.

Even when I tried to have HP detect my system on the web site, it comes up unable to identify the PC.

So it could had to have been a leak from inside HP themselves.

Maybe, maybe not. Who knows until someone investigates it.

I want to replace old hard drive, but can't find recovery file on the HP website

Hello,

The hard drive in my computer has ceased to properly function. Thus, i want to replace it. However, since this is a pre-built computer, it seems that I am limited to the OS provided by you guys. The thing is that I can't find the recovery file on the website or a physical recovery disk on any other website.  Is the physical recovery disk still available for this computer? If not, are there any available alternatives? I understand that one such is purchasing a new OS, but that's a little too pricey, which I think doesn't justify sticking with the PC(it's 5 years old after all). So it would be preferable if the available alternatives aren't so expensive. Thank you.

Stuck on "Set Up Windows" - Fresh Windows 7 Installation

$

Hello,

I have a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on my HP Envy desktop. I installed it myself, everything went fine. However, now when I'm setting up Windows (on the screen where it says "Choose a user name for your account and name your computer to distinguish it on the network"), the keyboard nor the mouse work.

The mouse's light on the bottom is on and both work before I boot into Windows (ie. the BIOS) and both are plugged into USB 2.0 ports. I have tried the different USB ports around the system, but that hasn't worked at this point (even though both the mouse and the keyboard worked during the earlier points of the install before the restart brought me to this screen). I have tried disabling Legacy Support in the BIOS, but that just returns an error saying "Boot Device Not Found." I have tried another keyboard which I know works on other systems, no difference here. I've researched online that some users recommend using a PS/2 keyboard, but there's no port for one on this machine. I'm literally steps from getting into my operating system, but none of the USB devices work. I've also seen suggestions about disabling EHCI or XCHI Pre-Boot Driver settings in the BIOS but I can't even find those on this BIOS. Does anyone know if maybe I'm missing a BIOS setting that could help me here or something? Thanks!

Hi:

Here is what I believe the problem is...

Intel removed USB 2.0 chipset support from the Skylake chipset.

This means that that normal USB or DVD installs for windows 7 will not work.

The Microsoft Windows 7 ISO doesn't have the native USB 3.0 drivers either.

So you have to add the USB 3.0 drivers into the Windows ISO.    Intel came through on this one.  They have a utility that does all the work for you.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25476/Windows-7-USB-3-0-Creator-Utility

Run the above utility and point to your USB Installation media and windows 7 should install.

There is a readme on the above link for instructions on how to convert your DVD into a bootable usb installation flash drive.

LarryMeBoy posting spot on for me. My wife's PC started exhibiting this problem when I purchased a wireless keyboard and mouse last week. Strangely it did not fail immediately. Blue Screen maybe 4 times a day. Then it began to Blue Screen on the first key press which has made it easier to identify. She does not use Webroot but I found the webroot driver WRkrn.sys running when, encouraged by Larry's posting, I looked for it as suggested. It turns out my wife used Webroot 4 years ago.

I was unable to delete the WRkrn.sys file till I first edited the registry and rebooted without the file being loaded. Deleting the registry entry which was loading the driver was the key point. I also note what Larry said about the fact that it was only with a cumulative update releasd by Microsoft in April 2016 that this issue came to light.

Hi,

Thanks for the message.

The product number is J2F54EA#ABU.

All the updates are not updating. I uninstalled & reinstalled the Hp assistant, but nothing has changed. It states 'your system is upto date..'; But when I go to the HP website there are current updates outstanding.

I did get some support from HP re. the System restore issue.  It is to restore it back to full factory settings. There are a lot of backups to be carried out before I can do this.

Re: RAM upgrade

Hi Malygris1

Firstly thank you for trying to help me because this problem seems to be endemic on my 3 Pavillion PCs.

I have read very carefully your recommendations and proceeded to try them in an orderly fashion. Slots were cleaned before starting.

Here is a record of what was perfomed this morning:

1    Started the PC in its current configuartion (2x4GB RAM in slots 2 and 4 on the motherboard)

2    Checked the BIOS system it clearly showed slots 2 and 4 being populated and showed 4GB in each slot

3    Checked BIOS revision -  6.10   09/07/10

4    Took the two RAM modules out of Slots 2 and 4 and repalced them with the two OTHER new modules (all RAM modules are suplied as being the same Kingston RAM from Amazon). Turned on the PC and it worked. BIOS recognised the two new modules in slots 2 and 4.  (RESULT All 4 RAM modules function correctly)

5    With slots 2 and 4 populated I now placed one of the previously used RAM modules in slot 3. PC would not boot.

6  With slots 2 and 4 populated I took the RAM module out of Slot 3 and placed it in slot 1. PC would not boot.

CONCLUSION

As per previous attempts to perfrom RAM upgrades on HP Pavilions it does not work for some reason??????

Slot 1 and Slot 3 do not seem to be accessed by the BIOS?

Slot1 and Slot 3 are not activated for some reason?

Slot 1 and Slot 3 are faulty maybe from original manufacturer?

System details:

Motherboard:

                           Manufacture:   FOXCONN

                           Model:  2AA9 (CPU 1)

                           Version:  1.0

Chip:

           Manufacturer:  AMD

           Model:    780G

BIOS:

          Manufacturer:    American Megatrand Inc.

The problems continue unfortunately - any other ideas would be welcome especially as I have spent money on this and HP does state that this product can be upgraded to 16GB very clearly.

Best Regards
