Hi wdh1219,

Your current BIOS version is newer than the updates at your PC's HP Support site. The fan(s) should not be running at full speed. I've got a circa November 2013 Envy 810-150se that is super quiet.

I think you should talk to HP about this. Scroll down the linked Contact HP page to use email contact.

I would use email to avoid the language barrier.

Your problem is outside the scope of my knowledge of the inner workings of HP's technology.

Again, if you are in the return/refund window, you may want to go that route. Troubles out of the box don't usually end well for the purchaser of the faulty device.

Hi Jay, my HP is a HP Envy h8-1430. I got it with windows 8 but upgraded to windows 10. I haven't added any internal stuff.

the problem happened all of the sudden; when I pushed the power button a small block appeared one of the choices was repair( I don't remember the other choices) I clicked on repair and the screen has come up black since.

Hi Bruce,

I need to know this fact.

What graphics solution are you using?

Your PC had two options at purchase:

1. Intel integrated graphics.

2. Nvidia GT 620.

Does your PC Power On Self Test (POST)? Do you see any video when you first boot the PC?

Try tapping "ESC" at boot to get to the "Startup Menu". Select "BIOS Setup". Select "File".

Select " Apply Defaults and Exit".

I have seen a Win 10 upgrade mess up other folks PC's, much as your's is now.

I don't know what the solution is because I have never come across a solution when this happens.

Your PC is borked. You have no video and cannot troubleshoot the system.

The only possible solution I can think of is to install a discrete graphics card if you are using the integrated Intel graphics or pull the Nvidia discrete card and try to use the integrated intel graphics.

You can possibly use the HP recovery discs or USB stick( I hope you have one of these recovery options available) to reinstall the factory operating system. This will only succeed if you have video at POST.

You can order HP recovery discs at this site. I am directing you to this link based on the product number you provided to me.

Please check the build number of the discs against the build number of your PC. A build number mis-match will result in a failed recovery process.

Finally, you have data loss to contend with. You would have to pull the HDD and install in a different PC as a data drive to save the good stuff before you reimage the HDD back to the factory image.

I have been computing since the early 1980's and have never seen an operating system upgrade corrupt VBIOS causing complete loss of video output.

Microsoft strikes again!

Jay

Hi,

Some other thoughts:

Pull the CR2032 battery on the motherboard and wait 10 seconds or so. Do this with the PC off and disconnected from AC power. Replace the battery with a new one for additional assurance.

Depress the power on switch to drain residual power from the system before working inside the chassis.

Reset the jumper pinson the motherboard to clear CMOS.

Have a local tech take a look.

Hi:

You need this driver...

This package contains the Intel Local Management Service (LMS) and Serial-over-LAN (SOL) support for Intel Active Management Technology (AMT) for the supported desktop models and operating systems. This software is part of the Intel Digital Office Initiative.

Hi there ,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!  It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. I understand that you are having an issue trying to update the BIOS on your system. I am happy to help with this.

I am a bit unsure as to your actual issue. Are you saying the BIOS will not install to the flash drive or that the option is unavailable, or are you saying you cannot boot off of the created flash drive?  Or, is it some other issue?

Please let me know

Hi there ,

May the Forums be with you!  It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel.  I understand that you cannot log in to Windows 10.  I am happy to give you a hand with this.

Rather than go with a factory reset, maybe try out this process from Microsoft to completely reset Windows 10, and removes the existing profiles. Reset your Windows 10 local account password - support.microsoft.com.

Please let me know whether that works for you, and if it does resolve your issue, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.

I read your post about problems with your new HP PC and wanted to help.

You should not be having problems with a PC this new.

While this PC is still under warranty, you should contact HP Customer Support directly to have them put you in touch with HP Technical Support to see what they can do about diagnosing and repairing your machine remotely.

I did this recently and the HP Tech was able to remotely access my PC from the Internet and do the needed repairs.

If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1

If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

NOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while!

Good Luck

Hi there ,

May the Forums be with you!  It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. I understand that you are looking for whether it is possible to upgrade your system to 8 GB of RAM.  I am happy to help with this.

Looking at the  HP Pavilion Media Center TV m8047c Desktop PC Product Specifications, in the section on "Memory upgrade information" it states:

•Dual channel memory architecture

•Four 240-pin DDR2 DIMM sockets

•Supports PC2 3200 (400 MHz), PC 4200 (533 MHz) and PC2 5300 (667 MHz) DDR2 DIMMs

•non-ECC memory only, unbuffered

•Maximum HP/Compaq approved memory is 4 GB*

•32 bit PCs cannot address a full 4.0 GB of memory.

From that the maximum memory supported is 4 GB.

I hope that completely answers your question and if so, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

I read your post about problems installing Win7 and wanted to help -- but need more information.

There is more than one model of your PC and we need the specific model number to search for information about it.

If you can, please follow the directions in this link to find the detailed product number of your PC: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824?jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0001

If that is not possible, then look for a sticker on the PC that includes the product number and post that here.

Also, WHY are you trying to install Win7 now? Did the system crash and you are trying to restore it?

Also, where did you get the media you are using?  Is this a set of HP Recovery Media disks you purchased from HP? Is this a set of recovery disks you made yourself from this PC? Or is this a DVD you made from an ISO file you downloaded, or a Microsoft Windows DVD?

We can proceed once you provide the information.

Thanks

Jay,

Only just got round to doing this.

 Fortunately all went well.

As you alluded to, I also have an on going problem with HP Support Asistant, but I will post a new question.

 Thanks for your help,
