Hello everyone,

My system is crashed with hard drive failure symptom.

From BIOS Setup Utility, run DPS self test for storage device - test failed with message "Test failed. Drive replacement recommended." Location SATA0 which is original 500GB Western Digital hard drive.

Try HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI "Hard Drive Check" Test, Quick Check. Short DTS test is failed. Indicated Hard Drive 1.

Before I open the back cover and install replacement hard drive, I need the Recovery media. (It lost or it never come with the desktop, I can not find it right now.) For some reason, I can not get to the point ordering Recovery Kit by myself. Help !

Thanks,

Han

Hi:

The product specs page for your PC indicate that it originally came with W8.1 from HP.

You can order W8.1 recovery media from HP for your PC from the link below.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/mediaorder/HP-Pavilion-23-h100-TouchSmart-All-in-One-Desktop-PC-series/6885212/model/7375859/softwareitem/J0J41AV/step1

After you install W8.1, you can click on the Update Now button at the link below to update back to W10.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

You can also clean install W10 on your new hard drive for free without ordering the HP W8.1 recovery media.

Using the media creation tool from the above link, you can make a bootable W10 installation USB flash drive or save an ISO file, which you can later burn to a DVD using your DVD burning software's burn ISO option.

When you get to the part of the installation script where you are asked to enter a product key, select the 'I don't have a product key' option (Skip), and 10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

BIOS Checksum Error for HP Pavilion a6750t CTO Desktop PC

Why do I get a Checksum Error when updating the BIOS IPIBL-LB Motherboard BIOS Update 5.43, 6 AUG 10 from HP's website, where my original BIOS is in 2009?  My desktop has all original hardware to include 4 GB of RAM running Windows 7 Ultimate with 64-bit.  My BIOS setup is fine, so I don't expect a bad system battery.  The BIOS updated defaults back to the original settings after the Checksum Error, and my computer boots up normally.  Next week, I'll upgrade my 4 GB RAM to the maximum 8 GB RAM, and will replace my system battery due to being 6 years old, then will attempt the BIOS update again.

Thanks!

Hi,

The CMOS battery in your PC needs to be replaced.  It's a $4 item.

Please review this HP article.

Thank you and krzemien for replying.
I'm going to hold a further investigation on the issue at the moment, as i kept my task manager and speedfan open, to monitor cpu/gpu behavior, it worked like a charm, the only difference now was a new bios driver.
I didn't notice that there was a new bios driver, so now it works and fps doesn't drop.

Thanks guys.

I have the exact same issue but I don't have a restore point prior to the bad update. Does that mean my only option is to reload Windows?

Thanks for your help!

, welcome to the forum.

Here is the Product Specifications page for the computer.  In the section titled "I/O Ports - Front I/O Ports" it says the Headphone port is on the front of the computer.  There must be a cover over the top of it.  I couldn't find a diagram to show you, however.

Hi

Greetings!

Backdrop:

I had bought the HP pavilion notebook pc laptop with windows embedded in it from an onsite seller (genuine HP seller).

It was windows 8/8.1 then and i got it upgraded to windows 10. All was going good until recently i gave my laptop to a friend of mine. He has run some softwares or some unauthorized keys, which is now showing me to "Activate Windows".

Q1. How can i get my previous windows OS key so that i can legalize my copy of windows OS?

Q2. Once i get the key by the virtue of answer to the Q1 above, will my system continue with windows 10 or will it downgrade to Windows 8/8.1?

Thanking you for the assisstance in advance

I assume you took the free upgrade? If so you have free lifetime reinstallation rights with a digital key stored on MS servers.

Microsoft provides the free Media Creation Tool to download files and create a Windows 10 usb flash drive. At least 8gb flash drive required:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Select Download tool now, and select Run.
If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.
On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC, and then select Next.
Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit or 32-bit) for Windows 10.
-------------------------------
When the flash drive is prepared insert it in a usb port. Power on the laptop and immediately start tapping Esc key. From the menu tap F9 key and use the arrow keys to move to and select usb. Tap Enter key.
When installing choose Custom and delete each partition. Continue with installation. If it asks at any point for license/product key just choose "I don't have a key". It will continue and should activate once you are online.

When Windows 10 was first activated, you were granted a "digital entitlement" to reinstall Windows at any time, at no cost, onto the same computer.

Can you use "System Restore" to time-warp your computer back to a date before he mucked with it?

> Q1. How can i get my previous windows OS key so that i can legalize my copy of windows OS?

First, when you do try to activate, does it activate, or do you get an error-message?

Second, from a command-line prompt, what do you get from the command:

    wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey

???

Third, there are free utilities to "peek" into the motherboard, to extract the original Windows 8/8.1 product-key.

If the activation is successful, then the currently-installed Windows 10 will be activated -- not Windows 8/8.1.

If the (hidden) "System Recovery" partition on your disk-drive is still intact, and you run "System Recovery", then the original factory-loaded operating system, namely Windows 8/8.1, will be installed.

But, you can leverage your entitlement to upgrade to Windows 10.

You are not the first person to report those symptoms.

See: Mouse & Keyboard stop working after Windows Update (February 2018)

which includes a Microsoft-recommended "workaround".

Immediately after doing the workaround, run Windows Update -- Microsoft issued an update on March 13, 2018 to prevent a reoccurrence.

One quick "tap" of the ON/OFF button should do it.

So far it looks like software issue with Windows. But let's make additional checks.

Please, check this HP article about the problems you experience now >> https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03413399

1. Check your hardware for issues - F2 diagnostics -> here are details >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JXUp43ahHA

2. Check your PC for malware/virus infections:

2.1.... Run the free ESET Online Scanner >> http://download.eset.com/special/eos/esetonlinescanner_enu.exe

Scan your PC for viruses, threats and unwanted/unsafe applications - remove if anything found.

2.2.... Run AdwCleaner >>https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/

3. Update your HP drivers using HP Support Assistant>> https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03467905

Skip BIOS/UEFI updates.

4. Check for overheating:

I recommend you download and run Speccy and monitor the temperatures of your HDD and CPU:

Here is more info :

Download Speccy Free version >> https://www.ccleaner.com/speccy/download

Install it

Run it

Check the HDD section and the CPU sections and take pictures of them, and post them back here so that I can see

Monitor the temps for a few days and let me know how it goes, let me know the readings/results.

5. Reduce potential overheating and clean from dust>> https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c01657439

6. Perform Windows system files check and repair:

Open Start , search for and open Command Prompt (CMD)

In CMD, please type Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

This is used to scan the Windows image for component store corruption, perform repair operations automatically, and records that corruption to the log file. This can take around 10-15 minutes up to a few hours to finish depending on the level of corruption. It may stay at certain % for a while before continuing.

Let me know how it goes after monitoring and repair... Looking forward to your detailed update.

Cheers !

Start on Keyboard Layout Screen and unable to access desktop

Hello,

I have updated my audio drivers as my sounds kept cutting out. I then restarted my PC and my audio was running fine. I played some games and decided to shut down my PC when I was done. I noticed it kept on going to the Sign-In screen so I ignored it and held down the power button on the tower. I later work up next morning to find out when I turn my PC it goes to a "Keyboard Layout" screen. I have tried all the options including, system restore, but when I try a system restore it gives me an error message saying "To use System Restore, you must specify which windows installation to restore. Restart this computer, select an operating system, and then select System Restore". I watched YouTube videos to correct my solutions but nothing helped. I found that I have different options to others such as: "UEFI Firmware Settings" instead of "Start-up Options". I press the UEFI Firmware Settings and all it says is "Restart PC to change UEFI Firmware Settings" and when I do that, it just brings me to the start of my problems: Keyboard Layout screen. I would like help as soon as possible. Also, I am trying not to do this over the phone but if you people cannot find a solution then I shall do it over the phone. Thanks
