DVD playback isn't included in the Windows 10 upgrade.  That includes CDs.   Yours was originally a Windows 7 notebook.

Start Menu Shut Down tab always indicates that updates are available

The Shut Down tab on the start menu always indicates that there ae updates available.  This persists even after manually checking for and downloading updates.

Then Microsoft Fixit was run, the computer was rebooted, and 5 updates were installed.  But the start menu still indicates that there are updates available.

What could be causing this?

How should this be dealt with?

Are there certain updates which are not successfully installed, and if so could this effect the security of the computer?

Thanks. The SATA drivers allowed me to install WIndows Vista Ultimate 32-Bit. The only extra driver I needed to manually install was the Ethernet driver, which I was able to get from the HP Website. After that, I was able to use Windows Update to install and update all the other drivers. The system works perfectly.

Greetings,

You have 30 days to go back to Win 7.

You will have to order HP Recovery media if the 30 day limit does not apply and you have no other Win 7 system image recovery options in place.

Back up data you need before attempting either option.

The HP factory recovery option is destructive. No data will be saved.

The go back to Win 7 option could also fail.

Greetings,

If Pavilion a350n is correct then there are no recovery kits available from either: Computer Surgeons or Restore Disks.

Please provide your PC's product number.

When did you purchase this system?

Cheers!

Hi HP,

why is my case ID: {Content Removed}
closed after no action has been taken for an entire week?? Is this how you

show your customer support? Not even a phone call or email reply to show any concern about the issue that

has been raised.

Problem Description: This is case that has been reported to HP before, a change in motherboard did not rectify the problem.
Previous "diagnosis" from iqor insisted of a software issue that could have been caused by a external
Network Attached Storage device or microsoft office. The network attached storage device is only map to the computer without any software required to run it. The computer stalls even without running any application. The computer was purchased in early February but has not been utilized much as it has been crashing since the first time it was powered up. Initial thoughts could be unstable OS from windows 10. However "digging" deeper into the issue, i found the error code prompted below. I have even registered myself in microsoft forums to have professionals who volunteer to help out as the technical support from iqor and phone remote support did not prove to be useful. I really hope HP can relook into this matter.

The computer stalls for every half an hour after powerup. With no programs running, while doing normal surfing, running any programs. It just stalls.

Greetings,

Did you run this Microsoft Fixit?

Try the manual reset update component instruction to see if this helps.

Run a check disk using these instructions.

Have you tried a System Restore?

Cheers!

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details). If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forum.

Hello,

Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum.

Please, try re-downloading the application >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02540572

Try to reinstall it.

If you continue getting the error screen, it is strange because the file is digitally signed. Error is because of Windows User Account Control. Please, read more here:

Let me know if this helps.

Greetings,

The HP Win 7 BIOS update is correct for your system. Differences in nomenclature are not relevant.

The BIOS update has nothing to do with providing Win 10 support.

This is what the BIOS update does:

Fix and enhancements

- Resolves issue with brightness function.
- Resolves issue with NVIDIA 520M and 540M graphics cards.
- Resolves issue with processor temperature and fan when resuming from sleep mode.

HP is not providing WIn 10 driver support for your system which was manufactured in 2011.

Microsoft will provide drivers for your system if you upgrade to Win 10.

I would not go there. The Win 10 upgrade may work or you may be sorry. Success has no relationship to the BIOS update.

Your call.

You better have a good recovery plan in place if the Win 10 upgrade fails.

Cheers!

Hello,

Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum.

HP system recovery usually performs complete format of the entire drive (partition) so everything you had before is deleted/gone including files and software . Windows is reinstalled from a special partition. After Windows is installed, you need to manually install all software/programs you will need from now on.

There is no way to restore the PC to previous condition if you already performed recovery. This is usually available by using some 3rd party software to create disk image such as Clonezilla  or  the Windows built-in options. More information:

Microsoft Outlook can also be backed-up using the all backup (e.g. system image) or just Outlook emails/stuff (PST file).

Most people nowadays use "cloud-based" emails (e.g. Gmail, Outlook, etc...) and the emails are actually stored on your email service provider servers. Once Outlook syncs with the ISP server, emails will sync wth your local Outlook.

If you plan on using Windows 7 and you want to make sure Windows 10 will not auto-install on your computer, please check this free application >> http://blog.ultimateoutsider.com/2015/08/using-gwx-stopper-to-permanently-remove.html

You can reset password via web if you used MS account for login. Or you can make a windows reset disk and use it to change the password. There are free programs such as Opcrack and ntpassword.

SSD will only allow UEFI boot and not show up as a Legacy Boot option.

Hi,

My comany is purchasing HP EliteDesk 800 G2, some comes with HDD and some with SSD.

We deploy Windows 7 x64 using SCCM using legacy boot.

On a machine with HDD installed I can configure the boot options to use legacy boot, but when I replace the disk to a SSD drive the only boot option for this drive is UEFI.

That causes the deployment to fail because the drive need to be partitioned as GPT.

On the other hand, if I disable legacy boot, PXE boot to UEFI and partition the disk as GPT, after the image deployment the disk is unable to boot with 0xc000000d error (I imagine the cause is Windows 7 support becuase it does work on Windows 8.1).

Bottom line, I can install Windows 7 on a HP EliteDesk 800 G2 only if legacy boot is enabled and I partition the disk as UEFI.

Is there any way of forcing the SSD to boot as legacy and not UEFI?

Is this issue caused by the workstation or is it enforced by the SSD?

thanks.
