Maddie,

First, know that you are welcome here on the HP Forum!

Within the past week or a bit longer, and after the most recent Updates to Chrome to move Chrome to V29.x, it was discovered that Chrome has changed the manner in which it handles Extensions -- the result of the change seems to be that HP SimplePass no longer works with Google Chrome 29.0.1547.41 .

If all else fails with Chrome and HP SimplePass, I recommend that you try downgrading your version of Chrome, at least for now.

Chrome and HP SimplePass Workaround – Downgrade Chrome

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the issue of "Default Programs", I suggest you try the following.

  • NOTE that the fix may not work unless you downgrade your Chrome version OR Google Chrome fixes the issue of Chrome not working with HP SimplePass.

Set Custom Default Programs – File Associations

You can control which Browser opens which kind of programs / webpages / files.

The following outlines a method for Windows 8; the method for Windows 7 may be similar.

FIRST:

Disconnect any USB drives from your computer and Create a restore point

Set Custom Default Programs

  • Close your browser

  • Windows key > type anywhere “file association” > Click “Settings” (right side of screen) > Select “Set Default Programs”

OR

  • Windows key + X > P (Opens the Control Panel) > set icon view > Set Default Programs

The Set Default Programs window starts:

  • Scroll down; Click to Select:  "Google Chrome"
  • Select the green arrow statement "Choose defaults for this program"
  • When the page opens, you can select which kinds of files / programs are opened with this Browser.
  • For example, if you want Chrome to control the opening of ftp, http, and https webpages, then place a CHECK next to those selections.
  • After you complete your selections, Click "Save"

  1. You might check what is set "now".  Before you make any changes; open each Browser and check which defaults are set to that Browser.
  2. Note that there may be unexpected consequences for any selection - try and then adjust as desired.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I hope that helps.

Click the KudosStar!

It is a great “Thank You” for the Author's efforts.
