I'm sorry you're running into this issue with the MediaSmart update.
Take a look in Programs and Features and see if you find any instances of 'MediaSmart DVD' or 'Cyberlink PowerDVD'? If so, uninstall those.
1. Click Start
2. Type 'programs'
3. Click Programs and Features
4. Wait a few seconds for the list to generate. Look closely for 'MediaSmart DVD' or 'Cyberlink PowerDVD'. If you see either of those, uninstall them.
First, I would like to see if you can get the original version of MediaSmart DVD installed from the Recovery Manager. To do that:
1. Click Start
2. Type 'recovery'
3. Click on HP Recovery Manager
4. Click on 'Reinstall drivers and software'
5. Look through the list for MediaSmart DVD. IMPORTANT: Make note of what that version number is and post it in your reply, please.
6. Select it and click the Install button.
It may prompt you to restart, go ahead and after the restart, test your DVD with MediaSmart.
I'll keep an eye out for your reply :)
