Recently purchased a system builder copy of Windows 8.1 to replace XP on our a1250n. We meet system requirements - 2gb ram, 64 bit, 500 gb hard drive, DirectX 9 graphics device.
Trying to do a clean install, we start with DVD in the tray, press a key when prompted to boot from DVD. DVD generates the windows blue flag which stays on screen for a couple minutes. But there is no circular spinning symbol and no request for a language choice. Computer re-boots and returns to the old OS. No evidence that the initial programs to guide a new OS installation were ever loaded.
Bottom line: Is it possible to install 8.1 over XP using the system builder disk? If so, how?
Thanks!
