Are you receiving a STOP error code (blue screen) when installing Win 7?
Can you provide some details on the new HDD installed?
Did the local shop create an HP recovery disc set using your p6241f HP's Recovery Manager software prior to the original HDD failure?
You have the COA sticker affixed to your PC which can be used to activate Win 7. What version of Win 7 did you borrow from your friend?
PLease refer to this HP thread on installing Win 7 without a disc.
I suspect there is an issue with the replacement HDD. Is the drive recognized in BIOS?
