Some time ago I asked a question about transplanting the hard drive from my HP 8200 desktop machine to my new HP 8300.
As suggested I installed the hard drive controller files before moving the drive, and almost everything seemed to work well. (Windows installed some additional drivers after the drive was installed.)
The OS recognises the new serial number etc, but HP Support Assistant still thinks that it is installed in an HP 8200 machine. This has caused one or two problems becauseHP Support Assist has tried to install a new BIOS update for the 8200, which of course won't work.
I installled the hard drive from my new 8300 in the 8200 and ran setup from there. This has caused fewer problems but still thinks it is installed on the 8300!
I presume there is a file which identifies the machine to the OS. Is there any way of editing this file, or replacing the file with the correct version?
