Re: Update the Bios

The NOX16AV#ABA you provided does not match any HP documents.

Invoke the BIOS and on the main page, you should see the product number. Post it here in your thread.

The risk is having a bricked, and therefore useless PC.

It is recommended to wait until Microsoft finally puts out an update in December that is compatible with more desktop and notebook PCs. That is what most people are doing. I use the Windows Insider edition on the desktop I am typing on.  It is a DIY ASUS ROG mobo based beast.

It is N0X16AV#ABA (I think second digit is zero).  Serial no. 2MD53602PG.  Model no. Envy Phoenix 850-160 SE DT.

Then I will wait until WIN 10 updates to update the BIOS, or maybe never update the BIOS until it is time to get a new computer.  I was struck how Microsoft was willing to spend a lot of time working with me while H-P would not give me the time of day until I bought their support option ($35 start and then $16/month).  Are all manufacturers like this?

Thanks, that worked after my son-in-law partioned the hard drive since DBAN had wiped it out.

For the Intel platform version of the Envy Phoenix 850-000 series desktop, there never was a BIOS update.

An update is probably not going to happen since your desktop PC appears to have a legacy.

Greetings,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

You definitely have a native USB 2.0 support problem on the system board. Intel used to provide a utility to inject USB 3.0 drivers into the W7 installation media but this Intel Support site is gone. You need USB 3.0 drivers on W7 installation media so the keyboard and mouse will work during W7 setup routine. Then you plug both peripherals into USB 3.0 ports during the W7 install.

The other possible problem is if you are using a M.2 NVME storage device as the OS boot device. Now you must also inject NVME drivers into the W7 installation media.

Plus HP does not support W7 on this product. No software, no drivers.

It is getting very difficult to run W7 on the latest hardware.

Regards

The High Pitched noise is constant after the computer has been on for about 10=15 minutes. It stops if I turn computer at 90 degree angle but starts again as soon as level again. I went to geek squad and they checked hard drive - OK and checked fan but did nothing to end the noise.. Driving me nuts.

How to install Windows 7 Pro back onto HP z420 workstation

good evening everyone my issue is that I have a HP z420 workstation with a pre-installed Windows 7 Pro downgraded from Windows 8.1 and I am replacing the hard-drive from scratch I have a new drive and I don't have a backup or installation media. When I go to the Microsoft support page and enter the product key they say to go to hp's website since this is a pre-installed key so I cannot download the iso directly from Microsoft as I could with Windows 8.

If there could be any support related to that then it would be wonderful.

EDIT: I ended up trying a Windows 7 pro install disc that I borrowed and when I'm at the part where I select the disk drive I have none come up as available. The BIOS is set to factory defaults and I have attempted to boot up the windows 7 copy from both a disc and a USB boot up configuration and still get nothing even after I try to load the chipset drivers from the HP support site I just get a message informing me to load a signed driver

UPDATE: I've finally done it! I went into the BIOS and changed the option from RAID+AHCI to just AHCI! I'm so relieved that its finally working :) Thank you again for your time :)

Hi:

See if this works...I have zipped up and attached the storage controller drivers below.

Use the DVD or put the USB flash drive into one of the USB 2 ports.  It won't work from a USB 3 port

Unzip them and copy them to a USB flash drive.

Unfortunately I don't know exactly what storage controller driver you need, but you can browse to each folder using the Load Driver option during the install.  Check the box, and it should only include the compatible driver.

One of those folders should have the correct storage controller driver.

Thank you Paul for the reply, unfortunately when i try that i get the following error code. (this is a screenshot i found on the internet but same message comes up) When i try finding the windows 7 32 bit drivers i then am able to see the disk drive but then get the error about being unable to create or locate a partition.

Hi

Boot device not found suggests a Hard Dsik Failure, which an F2 diagnostic should be able scan.

If it is you will need a new hard disk and recovery media.  Can you run the test please.
