I have an HP Pavillion desktop computer partitioned with Ubuntu installed alongside Windows 8. Mostly, I work on the Ubuntu half, which is all well and good, but I do have some important files on the Windows half too. Recently, when I've attempted to boot into Windows from the boot selector menu, a long stream of errors has come up across the screen and put me right back to the start. Something along the lines of "invalid UEFI path."
I've also been told that the Ubuntu utility boot-repair should work to fix it, and I've tried running it from a Kubuntu live CD. The problem is, the computer also won't boot from CD - I've changed the boot order to get it to work, but it acts as if there's no disc in the drive. I know the disc works because I used it to install Kubuntu on my laptop just a few weeks ago.
Bear in mind, the computer is still usable as it still boots into Ubuntu, but I have some applications that I use from time to time which are incompatible with Ubuntu and too intensive to use on an emulator; things like video games, design software, and the like. As a die-hard Linux user, I never thought I'd be saying this, but all I want is my gosh-darned Windows back.
