I just received a call too from a guy who had a strong accent.
He said he was calling on behalf of HP I think...and that my computer reported error messages and he was calling to help fix the problem I was having. Well, it is true, my computer has done that twice in the last 24 hours..an an exception occured. I went ahead and used my computer anyway. The first thing was this guy is kidding me...but I'll follow his instructions and see what he wants me to do...I kept saying I could not hear him and that I would place him on speaker phone...that's when he hung up. He wanted me to type event and three other letters like e t u or something like that. Again, the thick accent was limiting my understanding.
I didn't type it in of course but wonder now what the heck he was trying to do. One other reply post said the guy was probably trying to gain access to my computer by remote?
Be careful...we call the tec people, they don't call us.
