3) If you don't need the HP customizations or don't have your HP Recovery Discs, you should be able to install Windows 7 using the HP Windows 7 Upgrade Media. Using this method, you shouldn't need to use the "HP Upgrade Manager / Assistant" disc. Just place the "HP Windows 7 Upgrade Media" and boot the computer from the CD/DVD drive. This should start the installation process. Follow all prompts and answer all questions as needed. You will need to enter the Windows 7 product key that is on the Microsoft COA that came with the upgrade discs. See example below;
Just one thing I need to be sure of ... will this overwrite files on my hard drive? I have a recent backup of MyDocuments, but I have a ton of other stuff (videos, photos) that I haven't backed up in a while. :-(
