I think you may have meant to say that in another way. You came here to get someone else to solve it for you. ;)
Install the full feature software for your printer and that functionality should return. Do not install just the basic driver.
It also would help if you completely identified your printer. HP officejet 6500A is a series of printers. Take a look at the service tag on the rear or bottom of the printer.
