For an HP Pavillion 753N PC, Windows Home XP Hard drive and Video Card are not originals
A few years ago I had repairs done to this PC, including a re-install of Windows XP. I gave the guy my recovery discs to use.
Since that repair, I've had several problems that don't keep me from using the unit, but:
If I put the PC in sleep or hibernate mode, it never wakes up. The repair guy told me to restart it after having unplugged it. This worked, but why can't I use these modes? If I leave the PC running while not in use, the hard drive seems to run and run and run all night long. I don't want it to kill itself, plus it is using energy when it is supposed to be idle. I can understand it doing some housekeeping such as indexing files, but as I said, it runs and runs and runs...
An additional problem since that reinstall is that System Recovery doesn't work. The systems shows restore points, but when I try to use them, the system says there are none. Restore points have been useful to me in the past; I really don't like being without them.
Boot up takes forever, and during it, a dialog box comes up and asks for a password or some ID. Repair man told me to just hit "enter." This works, but I'd rather not take this extra step since boot up is so slow as it is.
One more thing - some Accessories programs didn't get re-installed. I don't know how this can be if he used my recovery discs.
Thanks much to all who respond!
